Sustaining strong national monitoring and evaluation (M&E) systems over time depends on the availability of skilled professionals who can carry institutional knowledge forward. In many low‑ and middle‑income and fragile contexts, the supply of qualified evaluators remains limited, constraining the development of credible and responsive M&E ecosystems. GEI addresses this challenge by strengthening pathways for young and emerging evaluators (YEEs) to engage in evaluation practice within national institutions, helping build the next generation of locally grounded evaluation capacity.

Building Careers
In many contexts, early‑career evaluators face barriers to gaining practical experience and professional integration. GEI works with partners—including the CLEAR Centers, EvalYouth, and BetterEvaluation—to support applied learning, mentorship, and participation in evaluation processes embedded within country institutions. Hands‑on learning opportunities, including internships and fellowships delivered through GEI’s network, help connect emerging evaluators to real‑world policy and system‑level work.
GEI’s work related to youth is integrated across its country engagements, training partnerships, and knowledge platforms. By supporting the development of future evaluation capacity within institutions, GEI helps strengthen the long‑term sustainability, relevance, and credibility of national M&E systems.
