A growing partnership committed to stronger evidence systems and better governance.

GEI operates as a multi-donor trust fund, administered through the Independent Evaluation Group of the World Bank Group. Donor contributions support GEI's work with governments to strengthen national monitoring and evaluation systems, deliver training and professional development, and advance knowledge sharing across regions. Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development serves as co-chair of GEI's Partnership Council.

"M&E is essential for accountability, oversight, and learning. Yet the capacity to generate and use evidence remains uneven across countries. GEI addresses this challenge by supporting countries to build sustainable monitoring systems, develop professional skills, and apply evidence to design and adapt effective policies." Uwe Gehlen, Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), Germany

GEI's current donors include bilateral agencies: Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Netherlands, Portugal, and Switzerland, as well as multilateral and UN partners including the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), UNDP, and UNICEF. The Climate Investment Funds (CIF) also contribute to GEI's expanding work on climate-responsive evaluation.
